Apartment Decorating Ideas!
Apartment decorating ideas are really pretty straightforward. Whether you are trying to live a frugal lifestyle or not, you can decorate your apartment to be the envy of all your friends! It is all about understanding the art of decorating spaces. Apartment decorating ideas are easy when you follow some simple interior decorating rules of decorating.
Your living room is the largest room to decorate. Most of the time, you don’t have to put a lot of thought into where to place your furniture due to windows, doorways, and cable outlets.
In most cases, a couch, loveseat, and chair is about all the furniture you can fit into the living room. Don’t overcrowd your room with too much furniture. And always take into consideration room for your coffee table, and a side table or two. You want a place for a lamp, and also a place for your drinks when entertaining.
The key to choosing the best window treatment idea, is taking into consideration space and function. Look into ready made drapery panels for your living room. Several stores, such as Target, carry a great line of designer draperies. Curtains just soften a room and make it comfortable and cozy!
A large wall mirror reflects light, and gives the illusion of a larger room. It’s great to place the mirror across from a window if possible.
When adding your accessories, don’t be afraid to choose large wall decor.
Flea Market Finds
When you are decorating on a budget, a great place to look is the flea market! You can discover some of the most wonderful furniture pieces at the flea market! Don’t be afraid to use large furniture pieces in your apartment.
When you are accessorizing your apartment, keep your items to scale with your furniture. This armoire needed some decorating on top. The brown clock just didn’t add much character. When accessorizing, you want your accessories to “pop”. There was a ton of brown going on here, so adding greenery, and black candlesticks, really gave it the much needed color. Those two accessories made a world of difference.
Kitchen Decorating Ideas
Don’t clutter your counter tops with too many accessories and appliances. Keep things neat and tidy.
If your only light is an overhead light, add a mini lamp in your kitchen. Mini lamps usually use a 25-40 watt bulb, which puts out a beautiful soft glow. This is a great look.
For your kitchen table add a simple grass cloth table runner, and place a wire bowl with natural filler inside.
Master Bedroom Decorating Ideas
The simplicity of this room is great. Learn how to paint furniture! You can save so much money! Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles and colors. Purchase long ready-made drapery panels. Curtains make all the difference in any room.
Curtain Hanging Tip: Hang your curtains as high above your window as possible. This will give the illusion of height to your room. The curtains in the photo above are hung 6″ above the actual window frame!
Bedding sets are expensive! But you can shop at discount stores like T.J. Maxx and pull together your own bed set using different patterns and textures. Just stay within the same color scheme and it will look great!
Remember, apartment decorating ideas are about design and incorporating your own personality. Choose things that make you happy!
Lighting is so important. Use more than one lamp in your master bedroom. Or you could opt for a table lamp by your bed, and a floor lamp in the corner of your room. Use a 40 watt bulb in the floor lamp to give off a softer glow.
Bathroom Decorating Ideas
Bathrooms tend to be one of the easiest room to become messy and cluttered quickly! Eliminate any extra products you really don’t need or use. Find unique containers like the glass jar above and fill with soap. Find wire baskets to hold extra towels.
Find a narrow basket to place on the back of the toilet, and fill it with bathroom accessories for added elegance.
One of my favorite storage ideas is using baskets.Use a basket under your sink to hold your flat iron, brush, hair spray, hair clips, etc. It’s perfect and easy to throw in there and shut the door!
You can also use plastic storage containers in your drawers to help organize things like makeup.
Never underestimate the power of unique containers when decorating your bathroom.
Remember: Clutter Equals Chaos
If you have smaller spaces around your apartment, the difficult thing about decorating those areas is decorating around clutter. You really have to be disciplined about keeping your clutter in control. That’s why they invented closets and baskets!
You really don’t have to spend a lot of money to have great apartment decorating ideas. Incorporate your own creativity and personality in your space! Good luck, and happy decorating!
